Ends 11.59pm Wed. Longest 0% balance transfer card Can't afford to clear your credit cards? QUICKLY shift debt to 29mths INTEREST-FREE If you've credit card debt, a 0% balance transfer is a powerful tool to slash costs. It's where you get a new card, which pays off the debt on your existing card(s) for you, so you owe it instead, but interest-free for a set time. That way, more of your repayments clear the actual debt, rather than just cover the interest. After months at the top of our best-buy table, Tesco Bank is cutting the 0% period on its market-leading balance transfer card at 11.59pm tomorrow (Wed). So if you're paying interest, don't delay. Two tips first... 1. Don't just apply - that can hit your ability to access credit. Go via an eligibility calc. Our 0% Balance Transfer Eligibility Checker speedily shows acceptance odds for top cards (some people are 'pre-approved') so you can home in on those most likely to accept you, without affecting your creditworthiness. 2. Go for the LOWEST FEE within a 0% time long enough to clear the debt. Longer balance transfers usually have a bigger one-off fee to transfer. So if you've a choice and can clear debt quicker, go for a shorter deal to minimise fees. Unsure? Play safe, go long, such as Tesco's card.

'Used your flight delay template - days later we got £540' Could you claim too? Check our 5 flight delay & cancellation need-to-knows The big summer getaway is now on. And while most flights go to plan, a minority don't, with travellers suffering the impact of delays and cancellations. Yet many are unaware of their legal right to claim between £110 and £520 in compensation each, if the airline is at fault. That's ON TOP of any refund, alternative flight or food reimbursement. As Angela told us in June: "In May, our New York flight was delayed 3+ hours due to a new plane part being needed. The airline only mentioned food/drink reimbursement, but your email prompted me to check for compensation. It took 15 mins using your template. I found out a few days later that I'd get £540 for me and my husband. Thank you." So here are our five need-to-knows, plus we've full help in our flight delay & flight cancellation guides... (Holiday coming up? Bookmark 'em just in case.)
PS: If you're significantly delayed at the airport, the airline must pay (or reimburse you) for food, drink and, if necessary, overnight accommodation - so keep receipts. See rights if delayed at the airport. |

THIS WEEK'S POLL How much money do you have in savings? Though it's been a difficult time for many to build up savings, over the past 12 months we've seen some of the highest savings rates for over a decade. On Thursday, the Bank of England lowered the base rate to 5%, and we've already noticed some top savings rates beginning to fall. This week, we want to know how much you have saved, and in what type of account you have the majority of your savings. Vote in this week's poll. Half of MoneySavers are on a fixed tariff for electricity and gas. Last week, we asked you whether you were on a fixed or a variable energy tariff, and over 5,400 of you responded. Just under 50% of respondents said they were on a fixed deal for electricity and gas, with just over one-third (38%) of those saying they had 10 to 12 months left on their fix. See the full results. |

MONEY MORAL DILEMMA Should we as bridesmaids have to pay for the bride to attend her own hen parties? I've been asked to be a bridesmaid, which will include going to a dress fitting and two hen parties - one in the UK and one abroad. The bride's expecting the other bridesmaids and me to pay for these events ourselves, and also pay for her portion between us. Given that we've agreed to go to all these events for her, should we have to pay for her to attend them too?
